On 4 December 2024, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced a temporary pause on the handling of certain motor finance commission complaints. This pause applies to most claims where a consumer believes they were charged hidden or unfair commission when taking out car finance.
The pause has been introduced while the FCA carries out a review into historical motor finance commission arrangements and how complaints about them should be resolved. This means that, during this period, finance providers and the Financial Ombudsman Service will not progress most related complaints.
What this means for you
-
You can still submit an enquiry or complaint now, but it may not be considered until the FCA has concluded its review.
-
The pause is currently in place until 25 September 2025, though this may change depending on the FCA’s findings.
-
Once the pause ends, cases will be reviewed under the updated guidance or rules.
